Dancing with Sharks

The ten-piece band Dancing with Sharks is the big sound of dancing in the north.

Blending the big band sound with a bit of rock gives a high-tempo groove that gets you dancing. Our wonderful vocalists, Pete McKie and Catriona Sutherland, give their talent and enthusiasm to every gig. Adding the timeless virtuosity of Roger Niven on guitar with our rock-solid rhythm section and the amazing brass and saxes, ends up with a full sound that simply can’t fail but gets you dancing.

Playing from a huge repertoire of classics from Ella Fitzgerald to Amy Winehouse and Sinatra to Freddie Mercury means there are bound to be songs in our set to suit all tastes.

Blueness

Blueness, is a five-piece comprising guitar, sax/clarinet, drums and bass.  It features Catriona Sutherland, a dynamic, versatile vocalist who is equally at home singing Janis Joplin, Etta James, Nora Jones or Joan Armatrading.

Repertoire ranges from electric and acoustic blues classics to blues rock, blues/jazz and originals.

Blueness is an exciting band with a strong local following and always gets people dancing.  I may have seen them play around the Inverness Bars, where they bring in the crowds.

Scratch ’N’ Brass

‘Scratch 'N' Brass was created out of a love of all things brass, funky and cool. We wanted to have a homegrown Mardi Gras/Street Brass/New Orleans Brass Band/Brass House band in the Scottish Highlands. With inspiration from the Rebirth Brass Band, Lucky Chops, Youngblood Brass Band, LaLa Brass, Too Many Zooz, Heavyweights Brass Band, Old Dirty Brasstards, and more, you will soon be groovin' out and dancin' away to our funky beatz.’

Highland Swing

Inverness's "Highland Swing" was formed in the Summer of 2004 by enthusiasts of swing and jazz music. Since that time we have established a very strong presence in the local community and, despite going through numerous personnel changes, have gone from strength to strength. We are now a regular feature at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.

The pandemic led us to explore new ways of making music together and we made a series of virtual ideo performances. We were brave enough to enter our efforts into the Inverness Music Festival and we came out category winners in 2021 and runners up in 2022.

The band's players' ages, like their experience, cover a wide range. But then experience is not the most important criterion we look for in a band member. No, we would prefer enthusiasm. But the knowledge of which way up to hold your instrument helps too. Visit the Highland swing website for more details
